Joseph Le

Joseph is the Chief of Staff for House Democratic Leader Tom Sawyer since December 2020, serving as the Leader's top aid and overseeing the House Democratic Leadership staff. He previously worked as the Legislative Director, Operations Director, and Agenda Clerk in the same office.

 

Joseph is a graduate of the University of Kansas double majoring in Political Science and Psychology, BA. In addition to his academic work, he spent a considerable amount of time working for his University's IT department as well as for General Dynamics' IT department, where he worked on troubleshooting the Affordable Care Act (ACA) website during the Obama Administration.

 

Joseph started his political career as an intern for the Kansas Democratic Party in the Third Congressional District, after the 2016 Presidential election. He worked on a City Council race while also beginning his time in the Kansas Legislature interning for then-House Assistant Democratic Leader, Stan Frownfelter.

In September 2019, Joseph was appointed by then-Mayor Lisa Larsen of the City of Lawrence to fill a two-year term vacancy on the Douglas County Community Corrections Advisory Board. He recently was re-appointed to serve another two-year term that ends in 2023. In January 2022, he was appointed by Mayor Courtney Shipley to fill a vacancy on the City of Lawrence Human Relations Commission. His term will end in 2023.

In his free time, Joseph follows NCAA Men's Basketball while rooting for the Jayhawks, watching The Office for the umpteenth time, dabbling with coding, staying up to date with the latest tech innovations, and spending time with his Akita, Emi.
